Senior Estimator

  • Prepare cost estimates for industrial and commercial construction work.
  • Verify call-for-tenders specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and details of estimates.
  • Perform preliminary and detailed quantity take-offs of plans and specifications.
  • Conduct in-depth study of plans and specifications submitted by clients.
  • Correctly interpret technical specifications of call-for-tenders documents.
  • Assist supervising resources with receipt of prices from subcontractors and closing of project bids.
  • Act as liaison with subcontractors following call-for-tenders launches, and track calls for tenders.
  • Study calls for tenders from subcontractors and make recommendations as necessary.
  • Estimate costs of materials, labour, rentals, etc. based on the plans and specifications.
  • Collaborate on continuous improvement of methods and procedures for processing current-project records.
  • Ensure continuous updating of the database of general and trade contractors for work performance.
  • Perform all tasks required for the position in a timely manner.
  • Assist other assessors as necessary.


  • Maintain collaborative relationships with construction project managers, subcontractors and professionals.
  • Maintain professional, trusted relationships with clients, professionals, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Secure the decision-making process.
  • Maintain and develop a network of external professional contacts.
  • Meet with subcontractors for negotiations with the project manager.



  • College diploma or university degree in civil engineering, architecture or construction management, or equivalent.
  • Membership in good standing in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) and/or the Association des estimateurs et des économistes de la construction du Québec (AEÉCQ) is an asset.
  • Five to 10 years’ experience as an assessor, ideally for general-contractor companies.
  • Strong math skills and good knowledge of industry standards, building codes, municipal bylaws, and construction materials.
  • Very good understanding of building mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Proven ability to reconcile multiple priorities; excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and IT skills (knowledge of Building Information Modelling is an asset).
  • Bilingual (English/French).
  • High degree of professional ethics; self-starter.
  • Ability to communicate; good interpersonal skills.
  • Superior priority management skills and ability to work to tight deadlines.
